What’s Health Coaching?
Health Coaching is a fairly new, yet highly effective profession which uses conversations, skill development, and goal setting to support health & wellness.
Unlike meeting with an expert (such as a doctor, nutritionist, or even Google) – where you’re told what to do – a health coach empowers you to take control of your wellbeing.
Picture these scenarios:
- You’ve received a diagnosis from your doctor with an overwhelming treatment plan or no direction at all!
- You’re concerned about recent test results or your family’s health history.
- You’ve been serving as a caregiver, or been laser focused on your career, and feel ready to prioritize your own health & wellness.
You’re motivated to get started, but as you fall down the Google rabbit hole, you may start to feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or alone. And “analysis paralysis” may start to creep in.
This is where a health coach comes in!
Together, in the strictest of confidence, we’ll review your health concerns, create your wellness vision, and set goals based on your priorities.
From there, you’ll start taking small steps to build momentum and confidence that will set you up for long term success.
And we’ll do it all in a way that’s driven by you and unique to you!
I’ve been successfully coaching for several years and have supported over 1,000 clients to take control of their health and wellness by:
- Cooking at home
- Moving more
- Increasing energy levels
- Prioritizing sleep
- Managing chronic conditions
- Stopping the use of tobacco/alcohol
- Crowding out simple carbs & sugar
- Managing stress
- Setting boundaries
- Practicing mindfulness
- Reducing screen/social media time
- Prioritizing self-care
- Connecting with purpose
I work with my private clients virtually and in-person and find that the best results develop over a period of three months— with sessions held every other week.
While you will drive the agenda, we will work within the following framework:
1. Your Complimentary Intro. Session:
First, we’ll connect for a 30-minute introductory session.
This casual conversation will allow us to get to know each other; outline what is – and what is not – part of a health coach’s scope of practice; and briefly discuss your health concerns and goals. There is no cost for this session.
If we decide to work together, I’ll ask you to review and sign the client-coach agreement, and set up your payment method and schedule. Completing these steps will allow us to focus solely on your health and wellness from Day 1!
2. Your Six Sessions:
Next, we’ll meet for your first, 60-minute session.
During this time we’ll review your health history (you’ll choose how much, or how little, you’d like to share), take a snapshot of your primary foods, and develop your wellness vision.
Your wellness vision, which may evolve as we move through the coaching process, will shape your goals and guide your remaining five, 45-minute sessions.
Unlike other healthcare appointments, you will drive the agenda and be coached to reconnect with your body’s intuition.
This is an important point of distinction:
- As a health coach I cannot diagnose, treat, prescribe/de-scribe medication or supplements, make caloric intake recommendations, create meal plans, or modify a treatment plan.
- I can, however, support you to make sustainable lifestyle changes, increase self-awareness around your health, and advocate for yourself when working with your healthcare providers.
3. Your Support System:
Throughout the coaching process I will support you in a way that works best for you, and coach you in a way that aligns with how you best learn.
For example, some of my clients request weekly email check-ins, while others ask me to share resources (books, podcasts, recipes, articles, experts, etc.) Some keep me updated on their progress as a way to hold themselves accountable. And some focus their sessions on skill development (cooking, pantry editing/stocking, meal planning, etc.)
Again, your bio-individuality will play an integral role in all facets of your program.
As we conclude our three months together we’ll celebrate your successes, recognize (and thank!) the challenges, and map out a plan to keep you in action—whether on your own, or through the continuation of our work together.
To learn more about becoming a private client, please schedule a no-cost, no-obligation intro. session.
I look forward to meeting you!
